MIT R&D: Seaweed cultivation with salt groundwater
Aquaculture technology
Seaweedland is developing a scalable, controlled on-land seaweed cultivation technology, using a proprietary tank design with controlled hydrodynamics. Our innovative seaweed cultivation process includes the use of filtered subterranean salt water and seawater sources, automated carbon dioxide supply, optimized artificial lighting and a mechanical harvesting system to optimize yield.
Raceway technology
In partnership with DL Plastics and Landustrie, Seaweedland is researching and developing the optimal raceway technology for large scale, land based seaweed cultivation.
Water treatment technology
In partnership with CEW, research is being conducted on the optimal water treatment technologies for removal of unwanted elements in underground saltwater sources in relation to seaweed health. This would broaden the scope of possible locations for seaweed farms in the Netherlands.
